What Colours Make You Feel More Confident?

Myira Khan • 1 August 2026

The colours we wear can influence how we feel about ourselves.

Many people come to a professional colour analysis consultation hoping to discover which colours suit them.

What they often discover is something deeper: the colours that help them feel more confident, authentic and comfortable in themselves.

Confidence is an interesting thing.

Many of us spend years looking for it.

We buy the clothes.

We follow the trends.

We save the outfit inspiration.

We try the makeup.

We look for the "right" style.

And yet confidence often feels elusive.

Because confidence isn't simply about what we wear.

It's about how we feel when we wear it.

And that's where colour becomes interesting.

Have You Ever Noticed How Some Colours Change How You Feel?

Think about your wardrobe for a moment.

Are there certain colours you reach for when you want to feel your best?

Perhaps a deep navy that makes you feel grounded.

A rich green that feels calming.

A warm berry tone that makes you feel vibrant.

Or maybe a soft neutral that simply feels comfortable and effortless.

Most of us already have colours that make us feel good.

The question is: why?

Confidence Isn't Just About Looking Good

When people think about Colour Analysis, they often assume it's about appearance.

Will this colour suit me?

Does this make me look healthy?

Does this match my skin tone?

These things matter.

But in my experience, the real impact of colour goes much deeper.

The colours we wear can influence how we feel about ourselves.

They can help us feel:

✨ More comfortable

✨ More authentic

✨ More visible

✨ More expressive

✨ More aligned with who we are

And when we feel more like ourselves, confidence often follows naturally.

The Difference Between Wearing a Colour and Wearing Your Colour

Have you ever put on an outfit that looked perfectly nice but somehow didn't feel right?

Perhaps people complimented it.

Perhaps it was fashionable.

Perhaps it was exactly what everyone else was wearing.

Yet something felt off.

Then there are those outfits that require very little thought.

You put them on and immediately feel:

"Yes. This feels like me."

That's the feeling that interests me most.

Not simply what colours suit us.

But what colours help us feel most like ourselves.

Confidence and Self-Expression

As a therapist, author and Colour & Identity Consultant, I've spent many years exploring identity.

Who are we?

How do we understand ourselves?

How do we express who we are?

For me, confidence isn't about becoming somebody else.

It's about becoming more comfortable being yourself.

Colour can play a surprisingly important role in that process.

The colours we choose communicate something.

Not just to others, but to ourselves.

They can reflect our personality.

Our values.

Our energy.

Our creativity.

Our sense of self.

Sometimes confidence grows when our external expression feels aligned with our internal identity.

Why We Often Wear Colours That Don't Feel Like Us

Many of us have wardrobes shaped by expectations.

Professional expectations.

Family expectations.

Fashion trends.

Social expectations.

The result?

We often end up wearing colours because we think we should.

Not because we genuinely love them.

Not because they help us feel confident.

Not because they feel like us.

One of the most rewarding parts of Colour Analysis is seeing people rediscover colours they had stopped allowing themselves to wear.

Colours that bring them joy.

Colours that feel authentic.

Colours that help them feel seen.

Colour Confidence Is Different for Everyone

There isn't one confident colour.

There isn't one colour that works for everybody.

For one person, confidence may be found in soft, understated tones.

For another, it may be found in rich jewel colours.

For someone else, confidence may come from bright, vibrant shades that reflect their personality.

The goal isn't to follow rules.

The goal is to understand what works uniquely for you.

What Happens When You Discover Your Best Colours?

One of the things clients often tell me after a Colour Analysis consultation is:

"Getting dressed feels easier"

They stop second-guessing themselves.

Shopping becomes more intentional.

Impulse purchases decrease.

Wardrobes become more cohesive.

And perhaps most importantly, they feel more confident in how they present themselves.

Not because Colour Analysis changes who they are.

But because it helps them express who they already are.

For Muslim Women: Confidence and Colour

As a Muslim woman who wears hijab, I know how important colour can be.

The colours we wear near our face often have the biggest impact on how we look and feel.

Many women find themselves wearing the same few colours repeatedly because they feel safe or familiar.

Colour Analysis can help expand those choices, helping you discover colours that enhance your natural features while still reflecting your personality, style and identity.

It's not about changing your style.

It's about understanding it more deeply.

Confidence Starts with Self-Understanding

At the heart of all my work - whether through therapy, writing, supervision, training or Colour & Identity Consultancy - is a simple belief:

Confidence grows when we understand ourselves.

Colour Analysis is one small but powerful way of doing that.

It's an opportunity to explore:

  • What suits you
  • What feels authentic
  • What reflects your identity
  • What helps you feel confident

Because sometimes confidence isn't about becoming more.

Sometimes it's about becoming more fully yourself.

Curious About Discovering Your Best Colours?

If you've ever wondered why certain colours make you feel energised, confident and comfortable while others leave you feeling washed out or disconnected, a Colour & Identity Consultation may help.

Together, we'll explore the colours that work best for your natural colouring, personality and self-expression, helping you feel more confident and intentional in how you present yourself.
